Bucklebury Badminton Club

CLUB HISTORY

"FORTY YEARS OF BADMINTON"

Bucklebury Badminton was started in the early 1970s by a group of keen local players. The original venue was Bradfield Village Hall where there was just one, rather limited court. Indeed, they even managed to play for a while at the Victory Room in Bucklebury Village Hall where space was even more restricted by the low ceiling with bars across it and the stage right at the back of the court. After these two venues, the club had the comparative luxury of playing at Brockhurst School Hall for many years. However when the new, purpose built hall at Elstree School became available, Bucklebury were lucky enough to be given the chance to move there.

Right from the start the club members were involved in local events and there has always been a strong social side. In the early years the members had stalls at local fetes, took part in the Hungerford to Newbury Crafty Craft Race and went away on camping trips with their families. These days, we still have strong links with the local community and enjoy regular social activities.
